A cricket academy for young teenage refugees, Zurich Crickets Academy, was founded within the existing ZCCC association in February 2023.
The project's target group is young Afghan refugees, especially unaccompanied 14-18-year-olds. Such young people need meaningful leisure activities. Cricket offers the opportunity to get to know other people, improve their German language skills and have older Afghans as role models. The Academy enables them to enjoy positive experiences with a sport they are already familiar with from their home country. They learn responsibility, reliability, punctuality, and fair play. They also improve their sporting skills and can play regularly in a team.
There are currently over 60 young players who are members of the Academy. They form U17 and U19 teams and, depending on their skill leves, can be integrated into ZCCC teams that play in the Swiss men's leagues.
