Zurich Crickets Cricket Club is one of the largest junior cricket clubs in Switzerland. Formed in 2004 the club has over 100 active members, the youngest aged 6 years, and a number of mums and dads helping out behind the scenes.
The age groups train on Saturday/Sunday at the indoor facilities at Hottingen and ZIS Adliswil in winter, and outdoors in summer at Deutweg in Winterthur and Embrach, with competitive games held over the weekend period. The club is an associate member of Cricket Switzerland, the national organisation, and plays competing teams from across Switzerland as well as organises tours for junior teams to other European countries.
A number of the players have been selected over the years to play for the Swiss junior national teams. Such teams have toured to England, Denmark, France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Cyprus and Barbados.
Our club is run by the parents of players. Help as a parent in running the club is vital, whether by volunteering to become a manager, coach, scorer, or umpire, or by assisting the committee in organising events.
The club's philosophy mirrors that of the MCC guidelines for youth development, namely to provide a well organised competition that enables as many junior members as possible to enjoy the game of cricket, and for them to get the most out of their participation. Differential skills within the same team should not lessen the enjoyment and sense of achievement of player, regardless of standard.
